Black Lower Shore Health Professionals
Robert A. Coker, DO
PHOTO Dr. Robert A. Coker is a Hos-pitalist at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, the position he held prior to spending four years at his private Family Medicine practice in Salisbury.

A native of New York City, Dr. Coker earned his MD at the Uni-versity of Medicine & Dentistry of NJ in Stratford, NJ and completed his internship there. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine.


Roy Cragway, MD
PHOTO Dr. Roy Cragway of Berlin is a family practice physician at Atlantic ImediCare on 10th St. in Ocean City and affiliated with Atlantic General Hos-pital. He moved to the Shore in 1994.

A native of Baltimore, he earned his bachelor's degree at Morgan State University and his medical degree at the University of Maryland Medical School. He interned at South Baltimore Hospital (now Harper Hospital) in Internal medicine and is an expert in Forensic medicine.


Ephrem Daniel, MD
PHOTO Dr. Ephrem Daniel has been a Pediatrician at Three Lower Counties Community Services, Inc. since 1997. He serves in their offices in Princess Anne, Salisbury, and Pocomoke City. He earned his MD from Addis Ababa U. in Ethiopia where he completed his internship in Pediatrics. He completed his residency at the University of Medicine & Dentistry in Newark, New Jersey.


Cornworth Dayton-Jones, MD
PHOTO Dr. Cornworth L. Dayton-Jones is an Anesthesiologist with Associated Anesthesiology Practice, PA and Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. He is also a past member of the Peninsula Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees. He has been on the Shore since 1991 and specializes in Pain Medicine.

A native of St. Kitts, West Indies, he graduated from the George Washington University Medical School in Washington, DC. He completed his surgical internship and residency at New Britain General Hospital in New Britain, Connecticut and his residency in Anesthesia at Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA.


Razaak Eniola, MD
PHOTO Dr. Razaak Eniola is a Hospit-alist at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, MD. He is a Graduate of the University of Lagos Medical School in Lagos, Nigeria. He completed his resi-dency at Harlem Hospital Center in New York and worked at Eastern Correctional Institution prior to joining Atlantic General.


Charles O. Folashade, MD
PHOTO Dr. Charles O. Folashade is the head of Arcadia Medical PA affordable urgent and primary care based at 108 Pine Bluff Rd. in Salisbury with loca-tions at 936 N. Salisbury Blvd. and 218 Newton St. in Salisbury. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and a certified Minority Business Enterprise in Maryland.

A native of Nigeria, Dr. Folashade earned his medi-cal degree at the University of Ibadan College of Medicine there. He has practiced in Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, at Harlem Hospital Center in New York City, and at Eastern Correctional Institution.


Christjon J. Huddleston, MD
PHOTO Dr. Christjon J. Huddleston is the senior partner of Huddleston & DiNardo, MD, PA and the Medical Director at UMES. His private In-ternal Medicine practice, founded in 1986, is located at Suite 103, 106 Milford St. in Salisbury. A native of Silver Spring, MD, Dr. Huddleston earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. He completed his residency at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore and worked at Bon Secour Hospital there. He moved to the Shore in 1983 to work at McCready Hospital in Crisfield. Dr. Huddleston is a member of the staff at PRMC and a member of the Peninsula Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees. He is past president of the Wicomico Medical Society.


Elton P. Maddox, Jr., DDS
PHOTO Dr. Elton Maddox is a Den-tist in Salisbury, MD. He has had his family dentistry practice at 1229 Mt Hermon Rd. since 1977.

A native of Somerset County where his parents still reside, Dr. Maddox became the first African American to head the Eastern Shore Dental Society in 1992. He earned his DDS Degree from the University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore.


Sharon A. McFayden-Eyo, MD
PHOTO Dr. Sharon McFayden-Eyo is a pediatrician who joined Dr. William A. Strott at the PRMC Primary Care Network Pediatrics office in Salisbury in 1997. They opened the private practice of McFayden-Eyo & Strott, PA in 2003 and are located at Suite 102, 1205 Pemberton Drive in Salisbury.

Dr. McFayden-Eyo moved to the Shore from Syracuse, NY where she earned her medical degree from the State Univ. of New York Health Science Center and did her residency in their Department of Pediatrics.


Kertrisa McWhite, MD
PHOTO Dr. Kertrisa McWhite is a surgeon specializing in breast surgery who recently joined the practice of Dr. Robert J. Davis in Salisbury and Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, MD. She serves as director of breast services for men & women diagnosed with cancer at Atlantic General.

McWhite received her medi-cal degree from MCP-Hahnermann School of Medicine in Philadelphia and completed her residency in general surgery at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ before beginning her Susan G. Komen breast cancer surgery fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern.


Emmanuel N. Nsah, MD
PHOTO Dr. Emmnuel N. Nsah is an associate at Peninsula Cardiology Associates, PA who specializes in Electro-physiology and Cardiovascu-lar Disease. He moved to the Shore to join the Association in 1998. Its office is located at 400 Eastern Shore Drive in Salisbury.

A native of Cameroon, Dr. Nsah earned his medical degree from University Center for Health Science in Cameroon and interned there. He came to the US in 1987 and researched in Cardiovascular Pathology at Johns Hopkins University. After that, he completed residences at New York University Medical College in NY City and St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore. Then he returned to Johns Hopkins University.


Andy H. Pierre, MD
PHOTO Dr. Andy H. Pierre is a Neurosurgeon who, in 2001, joined Dr. Julius Zant at Peninsula Neuro-surgical Associates, PA in Salisbury.

Dr. Pierre is from upstate New York and received his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He completed his intern-ship and residency at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York.


Adebowald Prest, MD
PHOTO Dr. Adebowald Prest prac-tices at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center Primary Care Family Medicine offices in Berlin, MD and Laurel, DE. She received her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed a residency in Family Practice at Ghent in Norfolk, VA.

Dr. Prest also completed a fellowship in OB/GYN at Harrisburg Hospital in Harrisburg, PA. She comes to the Shore from Cortland Memorial Hospital in Cortland, NY where she served as the vice chair of the Department of Family Medicine.


Inez V. Reeves, MD
PHOTO Dr. Inez Reeves is a Neona-tology specialist who received her medical degree from the A.M. Dogliotti College of Medicine in Monrovia, Liberia. She completed her residency at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC. Dr. Reeves also completed a fellowship at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center/ PSU in Hershey Pennsylvania.

She is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Neonatology and Perinatal Medicine. She joins the PRMC Neonatology and is providing care to newborns in the Center's Special Care Nursery.


Darryl A. Smith, MD
Dr. Darryl A. Smith is an Optometrist whose practice is in LensCrafters at the Centre in Salisbury.


Jock Simon, MD
PHOTO Dr. Jock Simon is a physi-cian who provides Family Medicine and Urgent Care at Bayside Medical located at 1311 Coastal Highway in Ocean City, MD.

A native of Baltimore, Dr. Simon moved to The Shore in 1996. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta and his medical degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Simon was a fellow in organ transplantation at the University of Minnesota before returning to Howard University Hospital as a surgeon and instructor in general surgery.


Dionne J. Smith, MD
PHOTO Dr. Dionne J. Smith is a physician in the Department of Emergency Services at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. An Emer-gency Medicine specialist, Dr. Smith received her medical degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago, Illinois. She completed an internship at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Portsmouth, VA and a residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital-UT Southwestern in Dallas, TX.

Dr. Smith has joined Emergency Services Assoc-iates, PA and is providing emergency care in the Robert T. Adkins Emergency/Trauma Center at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.


Jimmy D. Taylor, MD
PHOTO Dr. Jimmy D. Taylor is a hematology and medical oncology specialist who joined the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology in the Department of Medicine at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury last year. He received his medical degree from the Howard University School of Medicine in Washington, DC.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Taylor completed his internship at the Uni-versity of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, AL and his residency at Harlem Hospital Center in New York City. He also completed a fellowship at Michigan State U. College of Human Medicine in East Lansing, MI.


Julius D. Zant, MD
PHOTO Dr. Julius D. Zant is a Neurosurgeon and a partner in Peninsula Neurosurgical Associates, PA with Dr. Jacek M. Malik. Their office is located at 540 Snow Hill Rd. in Salisbury. He is also president of the medical staff at Peninsula Regional Medical Center and on the staff of its Neurosurgery Division.

Dr. Zant moved to Salisbury in 1989 to head the Division of Neurosurgery at PRMC. He is Board Certified in California, New York, and Maryland.

A native of Pasadena, MD, Dr. Zant earned his medical degree from the University of MD School of Medicine in Baltimore where he did his internship. He has also practiced in Syracuse and Los Angeles.


Other Black Shore Health Professionals
Glenwood C. Brooks, Jr., Ph.D.
PHOTO Dr. Glenwood C. Brooks, Jr. is a Neuropsychologist at HealthSouth Chesapeake Rehabilitation Hospital in Salisbury. He has practiced there and at Peninsula Regional Medical Center since 1994. His specialty is Adjust-ments to Health Problems. He has his own private practice and privi-leges at PRMC, Deer's Head Center, and Genesis Eldercare Rehabilitation Services in Salisbury and Taylor Manor in Ellicott City, Maryland.

Born in Philadelphia, Dr. Brooks graduated from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania and earned his PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park. He has a post doctorate fellowship in Neuropsychology and holds certificates in psycho-pharmacology, hypnotherapy, and pain management. He is a member of the American Board of Forensic Examiners.

Dr. Brooks has worked at the University of Maryland, Maryland State Board of Higher Education, and Morgan State University.


Raymond L. Blakely, PhD-PT
PHOTO Dr. Raymond L. Blakely is a professor and the chair of the UMES Department of Physical Therapy in the School of Health & Professions. The Depart-ment was established under his direc-torship in 1981. It has grown under his leadership to become accredited and include a doctorial program.

Dr. Blakely has 27 years of Physical Therapy Program adminis-tration experience, 40 years of exper-ience in clinical practice, and 34 years of teaching experience. He is active in professional organizations involving allied health and rural health. He has published several articles about his area of expertise.

A graduate of Ohio State U. with a BS Degree in Zoology, Dr. Blakely earned his M.Ed. Degree in Educational Guidance & Counseling at Xavier U, his MA Degree in Physical Therapy at NYU, and his PhD Degree in Physical Therapy (Pathokinesiology/Biomechanics and Safe-ty) at NYU.


Sharone Grant, RN
PHOTO Sharone V. Grant is a Registered Nurse and she has been Director of Student Health Services at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for the last 19 years. She has practiced nursing at SHORE UP!, Deer's Head Center, and Wor-Wic Community College.

A native of Onancock, VA, Mrs. Grant earned her nursing degree from Howard University and her Masters Degree in Nursing from Salisbury University. She is a past president of the MD College Health Nurses Association and a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society.


Denise Marshall, RN
PHOTO Denise Marshall is a Registered Nurse and the Head of the Nursing Department since 1993 at Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury.

A native of Salisbury, Marshall earned her BS in Nursing from Hampton University and a Masters of Education from Salisbury University.


LaTonya P. Martin, PT
PHOTO LaTonya P. Martin is a Physical Therapist and the co-owner of Martin Physical Therapy, Inc. in Salisbury and Dover, DE. She and her husband start-ed the company in 2006.

A native of Landover, MD, Latonya earned her BS Degree in Physical Therapy from UMES.


Stephen E. Martin, PT OCS
PHOTO Stephen E. Martin is a Physical Therapist and the co-owner of Martin Physical Therapy, Inc. in Salisbury and Dover, DE. He and his wife started the company in 2006. He is a certified Orthopaedic Specialist.

A native of Allen, MD, Martin is a graduate of Parkside High School and earned his BS Degree in Physical Therapy from UMES. The Salisbury office is located at 102A Williamsport Circle.


Juanita Milbourne, LPT CDP/MLD
PHOTO Jaunita Milbourne is a Physical Therapist with Aquacare Rehabilitation Services, Inc. in Salisbury. She has been with the company since it started in 1997 and is now clinical director of its Hand & Lymphedema Therapy Cen-ter at 314 W. Carroll St. in Salisbury. She is certified in Strain and Coun-terstrain Treatment and in Lymphedema Treatment including Comprehensive Decongestive Physiotherapy and Man-ual Lymphatic Drainage. She has practiced physical therapy on Delmarva for over 20 years emphasizing a caring and hands-on approach.

A native of Snow Hill, MD, Ms. Milbourne earned her BS Degree in Physical Education and Health from Morgan State University and her BS Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. She has practiced at HealthSouth Chesapeake Rehabilitation Hospital and taught at UMES.


Darlene Jackson-Bowen, MPAS, PA-C
PHOTO Mrs. Darlene Jackskon-Bowen is Chair of the Physician Assistant Program at UMES and a Clinical Assistant Professor. She is a graduate of Howard U., where she earned a certificate in Primary Care Medicine and a BS Degree in the Physician Assistant Program of the College of Allied Health Sciences. She also earned a MS Degree in Family Medicine in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies at the U. of Nebraska and is pursuing a PhD in the UMES. Organizational Leadership PhD Program.

Darlene is a NC-CPA Board Certified Physician Assistant and a member of American Academy of Physician Assistants. She is married to Corey Bowen.


Brian E. Townsend
PHOTO Brian E. Townsend is vice president and co-owner of Delmarva's Home Care Solution based at 547 A Riverside Drive in Salisbury. The company provides Certified Nursing and Geriatric Assistants for compan-ionship, light housekeeping, meal preparations, errands, and one-on-one home care for the hospitalized and home-bound. A Maryland native, Townsend is trained in business administration and public relations. He is a member of the Holly Community board of directors.


Black Health Professionals on the Upper Shore
Felix D. Barnett, MD
PHOTO Dr. Felix Barnett is an Anesthesiologist at Chester Regional Medical Center at 2108 Didonato Drive in Chester, MD. He specializes in Anesthesiology and Pain Management and is Board certified in both. He has been practicing since 1981 and has practiced on the Eastern Shore since 1995. He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan and completed his internship at Providence Hospital in Michigan.


Dennis M. DeShields, MD
PHOTO Dr. Dennis DeShields is a physician at The Memorial Hospital in Easton, MD. It is a part of Shore Health System. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. A graduate of Howard University College of Medicine, Dr. DeShields was a resident in Christiana Care Health System. He is married to Dr. Mary Deshields.


Mary S. DeShields, MD
PHOTO Dr. Mary DeShields is an Oncologist at Eastern Shore Oncology, P.C. Regional Cancer Center in Easton, MD. She is also affiliated with Shore Health System. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Internal Medicine in Medical Oncology, and the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

A graduate of Howard University College of Medicine, Dr. Mary DeShields also has a BS in Pharmacy from Florida A&M. She was a resident in Christiana Care Health System and a Medical Oncology Fellow in at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.


Valerie Ellen Goodman, DO
PHOTO Dr. Valerie E. Goodman is a physician at Shore Clinical Foundation in Centerville, MD. She is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practice and has been in practice on the Shore for two years.

A native of North New Jersey, Dr. Goodman earned her bachelors degree from Seaton Hall University and her medical degree from New York College of Osteo-pathic Medicine. She conducted her residence at St. Joseph's Hospital.


Sheri N. Moore, MD
PHOTO Dr. Sheri Moore is a Ped-iatrician at Choptank Community Health Services at 609 Daffin Street in Denton, Maryland. She is a graduate of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.


Taiwo M. Osunkoya, DDS
PHOTO Dr. Taino Mary Osunkoya is a Dentist in private practice in Denton, MD. She opened her Family Dentistry practice there four years ago. Her office is at 414 North 6th Street.

A native of Nigeria, Dr. Osunkoya graduated from the University of Lagos there and earned her Dental degree at the University of Pennsylvania Dental School. She resides in Dover, DE with her hus-band, who is a Physician, and their three children.
